Pale Wave’s debut studio album fits cleanly into the familiar space of 80’s-reminiscent dream/synth pop and offers a thoroughly enjoyable listen to the receptive. A tonally consistent album, My Mind Makes Noises is not particularly ambitious but knows what it’s about, delivering a poignant, well-crafted experience within a predictable framework. Rich yet airy electronic harmonies and subtlety bittersweet lead vocals produce a sound that evokes the feeling of locking eyes with your crush as the last slow song starts to play at your senior prom… or watching them walk away for the last time.
